America Wakeup Already!

August 10, 2010

Please allow me the luxury to interrupt the discussion on Compressed Natural Gas and turn our attention to an awakening announcement that appeared in today’s New York Times. The 2nd Part of the CNG discussion will resume tomorrow.

The article “Portugal Gives Itself a Clean-Energy Makeover,” by Elisabeth Rosenthal, says it all in one sentence “Nearly 45 percent of the electricity in Portugal’s grid will come from renewable sources this year.”  Elisabeth starts off by saying ” Five years ago, the leaders of this sun-scorched, wind-swept nation made a bet: To reduce Portugal’s dependence on imported fossil fuels, they embarked on an array of ambitious renewable energy projects — primarily harnessing the country’s wind and hydropower, but also its sunlight and ocean waves.”

Wow, think what America could do if it had leadership, a real plan, minimal bipartisan interests, unification, weak self-interest groups, the will to do so, resources that actually creates jobs, and our soldiers back home with loved ones in safe hands.

Hey, America Wake Up, You’re the energy laughing stock of the world. Stop draining U.S. dollars from our soil while destroying the soil in the interim. Silly if not inane to keep spending more money to fight those who feed our oil addition.. Not even a harden drug addict would be that stupid to fight its supplier. Maybe it’s time to cut the supplier and detox from oil. “METHANOIL” in the form of American Natural Gas, Clean Coal, Solar and Wind sounds good to me. Am I missing something?

Wow, think of where we may then be – Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.

    Barry,
with natural gas I would be careful. It it called “natural” gas, because that sounds nice.
It`s like a PR trick. When you write it on buses, people are impressed.

However, natural gas is and will ever stay (as long as it lasts) a fossil fuel! Natural gas is emmiting GHG`s greenhose gases, when burned, be it on your home cooker, your boiler or in a combustion engine. And natural gas has first to be ruptured out of our earth`s crust.
Not a decent thing to do, actually.

Just look around, what is happening, when tampering with mother nature.

Here you can see the actual sun`s power:

Many are surprised to learn, that the mechanical energy convertion by humans amounts
to only a magre 0,005 % pc of the incoming solar radiation. That`s the same per yera, month, day, hour or second. Just look up to see the sun to imagine her power

    Solar food for thoughts…

That is in fact: Much ado about nothing, more here:

Arno, what you say is true. Long-term Nat Gas is not a solution. However, it can be used as a temporary bridge to what should have been happened a long time ago – a Hydrogen based energy economy. Water to water is so simple and pure. But in the meantime, while America struggles to find a path, Nat Gas can help lead the way. Like a catwalk used by workers building a suspension bridge, so too will Nat Gas take a minor role or even taken down when the bridge is complete. Hopefully sooner than later.
